Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is an international organization responsible for coordinating and setting operation policies for unique identifiers, i.e. domain names [Names] and IP addresses [Numbers], between computers across the world and building the global Internet. In 2011, ICANN has launched the new generic Top Level Domain (gTLD) program. Domain names targeting children, as defined as age under 18 according to The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), including. kids, .baby etc., will soon be appeared online.
With the concern of child online protection, DotKids Foundation together with Hong Kong Committee on Children’s Rights and child-led organization Kids’ Dream, had held an awareness raising campaign during ICANN 44 meeting in Prague, Czech Republic in late June 2012. Promotional booth was setup to collect people’s view on the issue, at the same time, children’s concern on having safeguard on child-related gTLDs has been passed to Mr. Fadi Chehadé, President and Chief Executive of ICANN.
