DotKids Foundation has co-organized the workshop “WS202: Child Protection vs. Child Rights: Are They in Conflict?” with ConnectSafely.org during the Internet Governance Forum 2013 in Bali, Indonesia. Guests from Children’s Charities’ Coalition on Internet Safety, European Schoolnet, Ministry of Communications of Egypt and ECPAT International were invited to sit in the panel to discuss the risk children facing nowadays online as well as the solution to the problem.
Internet Governance Forum (IGF) is annually held, and run by the IGF Secretariat, with the purpose to support the United Nations Secretary-General in carrying out the mandate from the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) with regard to convening a new forum for multi-stakeholder policy dialogue. IGF serves to bring people together from various stakeholder groups as equals, in discussions on public policy issues relating to the Internet.
With the vision of creating child-friendly cyberspace, DotKids Foundation actively participated in the Internet Governance Forum, as a platform to exchange and promote different ideas. Speaking as workshop panelists and co-hosting workshops, we share our opinions on child-friendly Internet, child online safety and child & youth participation in Internet Governance, which is a really valuable chance to interact with people from different background for advocacy and brain stimulation.
